We were proud to welcome a team from SAGCO (Saudi Arabian Glass Company) to our new training facilities in Lisbon, bringing together their Mould Design, Mouldshop, and IS Production departments for an intensive technical seminar.
Saudi Arabian Glass Company (SAGCO), established in 1981 and beginning commercial production in 1985 with a single 60‑ton/day furnace, is a Jeddah‑based manufacturer of container glass. The company produces flint, green and amber glass and today operates 13 production lines and five furnaces with an installed capacity of about 1,000 metric tons per day (roughly 360,000 t/year), supplying domestic and regional customers and exporting to around 39 countries.
SAGCO holds a unique place in Empakglass's history — they were the first glass company to place their trust in us through a Technical Support Agreement, covering everything from Colour Changes and Product Development to FEA Analysis, Parison Design & Simulation, and Mould Equipment Development. A relationship built on expertise and mutual commitment since day one.
This edition covered a wide range of topics:
🔹 Roadmap for container conceptual design and key requirements
🔹 Principles of production-ready design and lightweighting, coupled with filling line characteristics
🔹 Mould design and IS performance
🔹 FEA and CFD analysis of mould cooling strategies vs. real thermal analysis
🔹 Parison design across all forming processes: B&B, NNPB, and Wide Mouth P&B

What made this seminar truly valuable was the hands-on approach — applying real-world cases to the guidelines, correlating them with IS timings, and working through potential glass defects together.

This kind of cross-department training helps glass plants start production from a stronger foundation, reduce defects, anticipate critical issues, shorten time to market, and — importantly — strengthen communication within the plant.

Thank you, SAGCO, for your continued confidence in Empakglass. We look forward to the challenges ahead! 🙏
We look forward to new challenges and to continuing our mission of finding smart, effective solutions for the Glass Industry!
